Kentucky State Police Post 9 Announces Traffic Safety Checkpoints
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State Police Post 9 is reminding motorists that traffic safety checkpoints may be conducted throughout the Post 9 district as part of ongoing efforts to promote highway safety and enforce Kentucky traffic laws.
Post 9 serves Pike, Floyd, Martin, Magoffin, and Johnson counties.
According to Kentucky State Police, traffic safety checkpoints are used to increase law enforcement visibility, promote safer roadways, and deter violations of Kentucky law.

During these checkpoints, troopers may focus on issues including:
- Impaired driving
- Vehicle equipment violations
- Proper vehicle registration
- Proof of insurance
- Valid driver’s licenses
- Other traffic or public safety violations encountered during the checkpoint
KSP says checkpoints also allow troopers to periodically concentrate enforcement efforts in areas where traffic and regulatory violations may be a concern.
